Perforating, scoring, numbering, diecutting and some imprinting. Response rates for projects using variable data printing range from double to 15x the response rates of standard printing.
For example, a set of personalized letters can be printed with your specific customer's name, address, and even picture, on each separate letter within the same file and print run. Variable data printing uses information from your Excel spreadsheet/database so that elements such as text, graphics and images may be changed from one printed piece to the next, without stopping or slowing down the printing process. Persons needing a poster, display or banner are asked to contact the staff at the Printing Lab 2–3 days before creating your poster to help eliminate problems. Large format printing is done at the Printing Lab on three 44" Epson 9880 printers. The bw copier can copy on paper up to 12" x 18" and convert copied pages into saddle stapled booklets from 5 ½" x 8 ½" up to 8 ½" x 11". The color copier can reproduce color copies on paper sizes up to 13" x 19".
Printlab studio plus#
The equipment includes a 1-color Heidelberg QM-46, a 2-color Heidelberg GTO-52 and the newset addition is a 6-color Akiyama 22" x 28" press plus aqueous coater and dryer. That equipment is located along the west side of the production area. The offset printing area of the Print Lab is the traditional way in which printing is done. The new prepress area is located in the front center of the Print Lab. The new technology has greatly reduced the amount of labor required to get a job done. The new equipment makes use of computer images to expose images directly to metal plates which are then processed and sent directly to the presses. The prepress or prep area has migrated to a new technology called Computer-to-Plate. These procedures apply to the simplest business form or letterhead to the most complicated full-color brochure. Electronic prepress procedures ensure projects are ready for printing. Although nearly every office on campus has this capability, generally a publication designed in-house does not necessarily mean it is print ready. With the advent of desktop publishing programs, writing and designing publications such as newsletters, brochures, posters, flyers, etc., has become much easier. There is a charge for all Print Lab work, and we only produce materials for the university, its students, and the entities connected to the university. The Print Lab is the on-campus print shop located in Yeager Hall.
